"Social media does not represent me"

I love this video that I found at feministing. It's called Girls Investigate: Our Views on Media and is a four part series where girls discuss their views on the media and popular. The series is a collaboration between the Women's Media Center (WMC) and Girls Learn International.

When the media and society continually portrays teenage girls as dumb, vapid dolls I wish everyone could see this video because it shows how intelligent girls really are.

I wrote a letter today....

I just found a really cute group on Facebook that I think people should join. It's called Riot Grrrl Penpals and it encourages girls to exchange letters, zines, postcards, mixtapes and whatever they like.

Thought For The Day

Your Biggest Mistake...

This is going to be short as I know the biggest mistake I made in my youth was not making enough mistakes.

I never took any risks or did anything bad because I was too shy and too worried about what people would think of me.

I think I've changed a little since then but not much.

la la la la la la....

This post is really just an excuse to post a Daria video. This is the episode where Val from Val Magazine comes to Lawndale to hang out with daria and find out about the 'youth culture'.

I love that even though these were made a few years ago this still happens today. Every single tv program, magazine, product that is aimed at young people are desperatley clinging to the little that they do know about us and the rest that they made up. 'Skins' is a perfect example of this. No one I know had that eventful or interesting childhood. We just sat at home feeling lonely or went out and felt lonely. Drug fuelled orgies didn't enter into it. Daria's reaction to it all is perfect. Exactly what I want to write in somedays when I see my so called culture sold back to me.

I think this episode completely encapsulates everything that I love about Daria. It's funny, perceptive and not afraid to stand up and be counted. I know she's not real but if I could be as honest and direct as Daria is all the time then I would definitely feel like I was adding a bit more to the world.

Tina Fey Is One of Us

I love Tina Fey, she's the classic example of geek girl done good. Even though Letterman is blatantly trying to embarrass her it's nice to know that she had a few issues like the rest of us.

When it comes to sexuality and virginity if you haven't done it you feel like a fool and almost less womanly.

Virginity isn't something we should be afraid of. While it isn't cool it is a fact of life for many girls and guys so get used to it world.
